Third XI Reports 2009 15th August 2009 Won - NMCC (home) 204 - 7 (53 overs) Datchworth II 110 (37.1 overs) - 18th in division North Mymms 3s arrived at Met Police Bushey flying high after three straight wins now sitting 13th in the league. Opponents Datchworth 2s were below Mymms in the league and so a win was absolutely vital to ensure safety. Captain Damian Southall won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first. Mymms welcomed back Stuart Bulger who took to the field with John Tiley to start proceedings. Both looked very good against the new ball with Stuart carrying on from where he had left off. The pair put on 45 before John went, caught for 20. 45-1. In at 3 was Colin Simmons who started cautiously but opened up wonderfully with a flurry of 4s. 3 overs later Stuart was the next man to go, caught for 34. 59-2. In at 4 to join Colin was Steve Tilley. Steve started very well and together they put on a very useful partnership of 66 before Colin was out caught for 30. 125-3. That brought Shoaib Anwar to the crease. Shortly afterwards Steve was out caught for 32. 130-4. In at 6 was Syed Farhan however he wasn't able to reproduce the form with the bat that we know he is capable of and he went, caught behind for 0. 130-5. Next in at 7 to join Shoaib was Damian Southall who struggled a little at the start before settling down. Together the pair moved the score on into the batting points. Shoaib went, caught for 29 with the score on 175-6. Next man in was Andrew Goodliffe who went on the offensive, the two batsman looked to attack and reached 200 and maximum batting points in the 52nd over. Damian was the next man to go trying to take a quick single off the penultimate ball he was run out for 16 after a good throw by cover. With a single ball left Ben Howell came out to join Goody who hit two to finish on 18 n.o. Mymms finished on 204-7. Adam Davies and Jack Caulfield opened the bowling for Mymms and bowled with pace and accuracy. Adam made the first breakthrough when a rare leg-side delivery was flicked at by the opener resulting in a leg-side catch by keeper Damian Southall. Adam had his second wicket shortly afterwards when he knocked over the middle stump of the number 3. Jack got his just reward when he clean bowled the other opener for 1. With a collapse on the cards the Datchworth number 4 started to play some shots and scored at a good rate. He was helped with a dropped catch behind the stumps by Damian early on! Andrew Goodliffe came on to bowl and bowled well. He had the number 5 bowled for 28 before Damian made amends for the dropped catch by taking the number 4 one-handed off Andrew's bowling. Syed Farhan replaced Jack and again bowled a very good spell. He had the number 6 well caught by Colin "Safe Hands" Simmons at mid off for 7. Andrew was replaced by Ben Howell and Syed was replaced by Stuart Bulger. Stuart had a fairytale start when his first ball and lets be honest folks, it was a loosener, short and wide was slapped straight into the hands of Ben Howell at cover. Happy Days. Stuart got into the groove and clean bowled the number 9 before having the number 10 caught by Shoaib. Ben bowled very well and took the top of off stump with a beauty that turned a long way to remove the number 8. I could not have asked for more from the bowlers as they all bowled accurately, made them play and gave their all. Final figures: A Davies 6-3-6-2 J Caulfield 6-2-12-1 A Goodliffe 11-0-52-2 S Farhan 8-2-29-1 S Bulger 4.1-2-4-3 B Howell 2-0-6-1 My man of the match this week is shared by Adam and Jack. For two opening bowlers to remove the top three batsmen, for 18 runs from 12 overs is very impressive. That put Datchworth on the back-foot and was instrumental in our victory. Special mention also goes to Stuart for his 3fer. Well-done gents. 8th August 2009 Won - NMCC (home) 144 - 8 (53 overs) Parkfield & Headstone II 116 (41.4 overs) - 14th in division The roller coaster continues....... North Mymms 3s arrived at Met Police Bushey brimming with confidence after back-to-back wins for their must win game against Parkfield and Headstone 2s. Captain Damian won the toss and elected to bat. Shortly afterwards Colin Simmons and Shoaib Anwar strode out to the middle to start the innings. Unfortunately Shoaib got one that moved a fraction and he nicked it to slip to go for 1. 3-1. In at 3 was Steve Tilley who looked to continue his good form with the bat. The pair looked very solid as they patiently put on 55 runs for the second wicket with some good shots and sensible running. Colin was the next to go, caught for a useful 22. 58-2. Next in was Dilruk Jayamanna who tried to carry on where he left off last week. It was not to be though and he was adjudged to have nicked one to the keeper and went for 3. 67-3. In at 5 was Syed Farhan who looked good and had found his timing when some dreadful calling put paid to that partnership when Syed was run out for 5. 73-4. That brought Andrew Craig to the middle to join Steve. The pair looked to push the score on as we were now in the 31st over but Steve was caught hitting out for a well-played 33. 77-5. In at 7 was Damian Southall who managed to nudge a few around and get a couple out of the middle for a pleasant change! Andrew was the next to go caught for 6. 82-6. Chris Edrupt was the next man in and looked to push the score on with some attacking shots. Unfortunately he missed one that just clipped the top of off and was bowled for 4. 100-7. In at 9 was Ben Howell who played some excellent defensive shots to stay at the crease which allowed Damian to have a go at anything off line. By the time Ben went, bowled for 1, the partnership was up to 23 important runs. 123-8. Matt Rathbone was in next and how he didn't go in his first over is a complete mystery as the ball pitched outside off and as Matt stepped to leg to cut the ball it just followed him and kept going until just before it hit leg stump it turned even more and missed by a coat of varnish! Matt made the most of his luck and played some excellent shots to finish the innings undefeated on 12, Damian finished on 40 n.o. Mymms total 144-8. After tea the Mymms bowling attack was lead by Chris Edrupt and Syed Farhan. Both bowled with good pace and with the pitch starting to become unpredictable Chris soon had an opener calling for his helmet after being hit on the head. He shouldn't have bothered as the very next ball he nicked it to gully where it was taken by Damian. 13-1. Syed was replaced by Jeff Spencer who bowled one of his best spells of bowling this season. His line and length were perfect for a pitch that was starting to move around. Between Chris and Jeff the bowling was fantastic which was in complete contrast to our catching!! Jeff had the other opener and number three caught well by Shoaib and a fantastic slip catch by Ben Howell off Jeff's bowling got rid of the number 4 without scoring. A caught and bowled by Jeff was the last of his 4 wickets. Matt Rathbone had replaced Chris and had his reward when Colin Simmons took a nice catch at mid-off. By this time Parkfield were 47-6 and Mymms were firmly in control, despite our terrible catching. But then in true Mymms 3rd style we let them right back in as catch after catch went down. The partnership had reached 40 when Syed came back on for a second spell and had the number 7 caught by Colin again at mid-off for a useful 29. 87-7. Ben Howell was brought on and bowled a good line, his first victim came through a nice catch by Syed on the deep mid on boundary. Shoaib Anwar had a spell of four overs and took an important wicket caught by Steve Tilley at mid-on. The last wicket came with the score on 116 with 6 overs required. Knowing that a draw was no good for them the Parkfield batsmen carried on swinging. The number 11 was adjudged LBW to Ben Howell for his second wicket of the game. Three wins on the bounce was a massive relief and one that has taken us to 13th in the league, without getting too carried away if we can win three out of our last four games a top 10 finish is very possible. My MOM this week is shared by Chris Edrupt, Ben Howell and Jeff Spencer, fantastic bowling gents. On a personal note I am very proud that despite some terrible catching and losing a man at 25 overs we never stopped fighting and supporting our bowlers, we made them work for every run and that is what brought us victory. Another big game next week as we make sure of safety, home to Datchworth 2s. C Edrupt 10-3-15-1 S Farhan 6-0-16-1 J Spencer 9-1-17-4 M Rathbone 5-0-21-1 B Howell 8-0-22-2 S Anwar 4-0-20-1 1st August 2009 Won NMCC (away) 129 - 2 (32.3 overs) Sandridge II 128 - 6 (29.1 overs) - 19th in division Mymms arrived at Sandridge in good spirits after an excellent win at home to Leverstock Green the week before. With Sandridge being one place lower than Mymms in the league a win was vital. A task that was made a little easier when the Sandridge Captain mentioned that he only had 9 players due to swine flu and a stag do! Of the 9 players 2 had to leave at 5pm.....oh dear. Captain Damian lost the toss and the Sandridge Captain elected to bat first. Opening the bowling was Jack Caulfield and Chris Edrupt. Both bowled extremely well and Jack made the first breakthrough when an obviously makeshift opener went for a big yahoo and promptly lost his middle stump without scoring. Jack had the other opener well caught at extra cover by Henry's mate Joe. Chris meanwhile was rewarded when the previously patient number 3 tried to smack him out of the park and lost his stumps. The number 4 who appeared to be wearing lead boots, such was his footwork, was the next to go bowled by Jack. The number 5 caused some controversy when he was bowled off a "no-ball" by Matt Rathbone only to duck underneath a full bunger by Matt a few overs later which cost him the top of his middle stump!!! To say he was not impressed is putting it mildly. The number 6 tried to recover the situation for Sandridge with some lusty blows through the leg side, I can't remember a single shot through off, as he put on a quickfire 44 before a great quicker ball yorker by Henry Farrell knocked his stumps over. Jeff Spencer replaced Chris who was suffering with his knee but unfortunately he was on the end of some desperate slogging by the Sandridge Captain who knew that time was against him. Jeff had his revenge as he had the Captain caught for 18. As the 7th wicket fell the Sandridge Captain declared on 128-7, even though he had a man yet to bat. With the weather looking gloomier and gloomier a grateful Mymms side padded up very quickly and took to the field. With John "Mr Reliable" Tiley up in the 2s it was down to Steve Tilley-Karatne to join the other regular Mymms Opener, Colin "You'll have to get me out with a shoe horn" Simmons. The pair stuck to the task and hammered anything short/wide before Steve went, bowled for 9. 25-1. Next in was Henry. He looked like he was seeing the ball well until he managed to hit one straight to a fielder to go for 2. 43 - 2. In at 4 to join Colin was Dilruk "I'll play through the pain, Skip" Jayamanna, who was suffering with a bad back. Together they put on a fantastic partnership of 85 which knocked off the required runs without any further loss. Colin ending on 58 n.o. and Dilruk on 42 n.o. The decision to take tea at the end proved to be the right one as minutes after the game finished the heavens opened making any further play impossible. The 30 points moves us up to 15th in the league, two places above the relegation zone. Another crunch match this week, home to Parkfield and Headstone who are one place above us in the league. Mymms bowling figures: C Edrupt 10-2-33-1 J Caulfield 6-4-8-3 M Rathbone 5-0-30-1 J Spencer 5-0-41-1 H Farrell 3-0-14-1 My men of the match this week goes to Jack Caulfield for his excellent bowling figures and Colin Simmons for carrying his bat, special mention also goes to Chris for his bowling and Dilruk for his contribution with the bat. Well done gents. 11th July 2009 NMCC (home) 183 - 5 (53 overs) Monken Hadley 184 - 4 (28.4 overs) Mymms 3s arrived at Met Police Bushey for their home game against Monken Hadley CC precariously close to the foot of the table. Captain Damian Southall won the toss and elected to bat. Mymms Openers John Tiley and Colin Simmons started in their usual solid, dependable way before Colin was caught for 10. 34-1. In at number 3 and buzzing after his 50 and two wickets the week before was Steve Tilley-Karatne. He proved that the phrase "It's a funny old game" doesn't just apply to football as he nicked one behind without troubling the scorer. 36-2. That brought Henry Farrell to the crease to join John and between them they started to steadily put on runs, both playing some nice shots. The partnership of 24 was broken when John was caught for a well played 37. 60-3. In at 5 was Tom Kight who showed what he was capable of with the bat, still well supported by Henry. The partnership was broken when Henry was caught for a very patient 14. 72-4. Next in was Trevor Smith who punished anything short and wide as he smashed three 4s in a quickfire 17 before playing round a straight one to go, bowled. 100-5. In at 7 was Damian Southall who managed to nudge and nurdle a few whilst Tom played some beautiful shots at the other end. The pair stayed together for 18 overs and put on 83 Damian finishing on 39 n.o and Tom for a very nice 57 n.o. 183-5 after 53 overs. After the tea interval the Monken Hadley Captain declared that one player had already left the ground and another had to go in 20 minutes due to a dinner commitment in Covent Garden! Opening the bowling was Tom Kight and Jack Caulfield. Both bowled with excellent pace however only being at the crease for 20 minutes meant that one opener opened his shoulders straight away and literally slogged from the off. This kind of batting isn't easy to set a field to and good balls on off stump were pulled through cow for 4! Both openers then departed at the same time as one retired out on 24 and the second was caught by a good running catch by Damian off Tom Kight for 11. With two new batsmen at the crease it was the ideal time for the Mymms bowlers to make their mark. Jack finished his spell well and was replaced by Jeff Spencer. Jeff tried to mix it up and draw a false stroke but just couldn't find his usual nagging line and length. Tom was replaced by Andrew Goodliffe. Andrew got off to an excellent start with a first over which contained a couple of half chance catches. He couldn't quite continue in the same vein and anything short and wide was pounced upon by the batsmen. In the hope of winkling out a batsman Damian gave the ball to Henry but what with a wet ball and a decent pitch it just didn't happen and Tom Kight was brought back on. It proved to be the right decision as Tom bowled the number 3 for a well played 55. He then bowled the fidgety number 5 for 0 to give Mymms a sniff of only a second victory. Trevor came on at the death and beat the bat more than once but again a wet ball and a batsman with his eye in meant that Monken Hadley scored the winning runs without further loss. It was a case of 30 runs too few with the bat and simply bowling too short that was our undoing today. Mymms bowling figures:
J Caulfield 5 - 2 - 19 - 0 A Goodliffe 4 - 0 - 30 - 0 J Spencer 7 - 0 - 39 - 0 H Farrell 2 - 0 - 18 - 0 T Smith 2 - 0 - 20 - 0 Although we lost we moved up a place in the league, keep going lads. My man of the match today goes to Tom Kight for his innings and three wickets but special mention goes to Jack Caulfield who bowled kept it tight against the slogging opener and was unlucky not to pick up a wicket. Well done gents.
23rd May 2009 NMCC (away) 162 (52.3 overs) Hatch End II 165-5 (35.2 overs) North Mymms 3s arrived at Hatch End CC for the fourth game of the season still searching for the first win of this season. On a beautiful sunny day Mymms won the toss and elected to bat. The openers Colin Simmons and Steve Tilley looked steady against a good opening attack. One of the opening bowlers, Davies, was a former 1s player and that was evident as he moved the ball both ways and bowled unchanged for 23 overs finishing with 7-37! First to go was Steve Tilley who nicked one behind off the other opener for 7. 14-1. Batting at number 3 was Henry Farrell. Colin and Henry had settled and looked on for a good partnership when Colin played around a straight one to go for 10. 26-2. That brought Damian Southall to the crease but he nicked one to 1st slip without bothering the scorer. 31-3. Next in, and making his North Mymms 2009 debut, was Paul Terry. Unfortunately he also went without troubling the scorer when he was bowled. 31-4. Terry Senior then came in to bat and looked to put on a few runs with Henry who had played some lovely shots, including three nice 4s, but just as he looked set Henry was bowled by a good delivery for 17. 44-5. Tahir Akhtar was the new batsman and tried to put runs on the board before being cleaned up for 2. 48-6. After a middle order collapse and another low score on the cards Tom Wiggins strode out to join Mark Terry. Between them they played some excellent cricket and showed the other batsman who had been and gone how it should be done. They put on a very useful 58 for the 7th wicket before Mark was bowled for a 28. 106-7. That brought Andrew Goodliffe to the middle. He became Davies's third duck victim as he went bowled for 0. 108-8. Jeff Spencer was the next batsman in and he put the oppo bowling to the sword with some fine shots (and some that you won't find in the Geoff Boycott batting manual). Tom continued where he had left off with Mark and the pair put on 43 for the 9th wicket before Tom was stumped for a very good 28. That brought young Thomas Gregory to join Jeff and the youngster played some very solid forward defensive strokes. You couldn't teach them to your older brother could you please Thomas? The last over came and Jeff was bowled slogging for a very well-batted 47. That put Mymms on 162 all out. After tea Mymms took to the field with Mark and Goody taking the new ball. Mark had an opener plumb LBW with his first over but the umpire did not share the same view for some reason. Mark did get his reward, albeit the other opener, the next over when he had the batsman LBW. That brought in the left handed number 3 who gave the game away that he wasn't a Div 9 player with his second shot as he drove Mark through extra cover for 4. Hmmm. Goody struggled to maintain a consistent line and length in his first spell and was replaced by Jeff who bowled with his usual nagging accuracy. Meanwhile the opener and lefty number 3 plundered anything short or wide but eventually the lefty was undone by Jeff as he nicked one behind to Damian for 45. Goody came back on for a second spell bowling a much better line and length and was rewarded with the number 4 caught brilliantly by Tahir for 13 and the number 5 LBW for 5. Hatch End knocked off the winning runs without any further loss. This was a game that I thought we deserved more than just 8 points from, but that's cricket. The opener that was, in my opinion, plumb LBW to Mark went on to make an undefeated 66 so it was a very important decision to have turned down.
Bowling figures: Goody 11-2-40-2. Mark Terry 13-2-46-1 Jeff Spencer 7-1-35-1 Henry Farrell 4-0-25-0 Tom Wiggins 0.2-0-4-0 My man of the match this week goes to Jeff for his 47 batting at number 10, special mention goes to Tom Wiggins for his contribution. Well done gents. Damian Southall 16th May 2009 NMCC (Home) 43 (43.3 overs) Luton Town & Indians III - 46-1 (20.0 overs) North Mymms 3s arrived at Met Police Bushey for the third match of the Season against Luton Town and Indians CC. We won the toss and only having 9 men present opted to bat. Mark Terry was suffering with his drains and Steve Tilley went to Bushey CC....Steve, when has Mymms ever played at home at Bushey CC? The umpire for the day was Stuart Bulger, great to see you Stuart. Hopefully you will be back where you belong, hitting 4s, not signalling them. Colin Simmons and Henry Farrell opened the Mymms innings. The Luton bowlers bowled very well, assisted with an unusually variable Bushey pitch. Unfortunately Colin nicked one behind without bothering the scorer and, being the gentleman that he is, walked without needing the umpire's digit. 5-1. That brought Steve Tilley to the crease to join Henry and between them they started to put on a few runs. Sadly some suicidal running meant that Henry was run out for a well played 12. 18-2. Next man in was Ian "Ultimate" Bright who fresh from his career best 41 was just itching to get at the bowlers. Unfortunately the tight bowling proved a bit too frustrating before he swung around a straight one to go for 1. 23-3. That brought Darren Medforth into the attack but again the bowlers, who's tails were up, proved too much before he went, caught for 1. 25-4. With wickets falling like skittles skipper Damian Southall came to the middle, the variable bounce proved his downfall as he gloved one to slip for 2. 28-5. Next in and carrying the burden of being the last recognised batsman, albeit with clean drains, was Mark Terry. Meanwhile Steve Tilley nicked one to the keeper and walked for a valuable 10 runs. 29-6. Jeff Spencer now joined Mark and was caught for 1 trying to push the runs on. 30-7. Next man in was Tom Wiggins who ably supported Mark for a while before being cleaned up for 0. 34-8. That brought debutant Tahir Akhtar to join Mark and for a while they looked like they might actually take Mymms to a score that was defendable. Unfortunately Tahir didn't quite find the middle whilst hitting out and was caught for 4. 42-9. With last man Matt Rathbone at the crease Mark knew that his only option was attack, and although he had proved that he could defend, with runs badly needed he was caught by mid on for a very patient 70 ball 6. 43 all out. Mymms took to the field and Mark Terry and Jeff Spencer took the new ball. I can honestly say that Mark bowled one of the best spells of swing bowling that I have ever seen at club level. It was simply unplayable with most of the runs scored off him flashing through the slips. He could easily have had five wickets but it was not to be as catch after catch went down in the slips. Jeff at the other end bowled very well keeping the pressure on and also missed the outside edge by a coat of varnish on several occasions. Finally Mark got some reward when an opener chipped one to Darren Medforth at cover. Our only point of the match. Matt Rathbone replaced Jeff and again could have had a wicket on another day as the batsmen played and missed. Luton Town scored the required runs without further loss. Mark finished with figures of 10-4-1-12, Jeff 8-1-0-18 and Matt 2-0-0-14. My man of the match this week goes to Mark. Well done. I honestly feel that this was just a bad day, if we had held our catches it could have been a different match report altogether! Hatch End away next week lads, I am sure that if we keep working for each other and dig deep our first 30 points will follow. Damian Southall 9th May 2009 NMCC (away) 153 (46.0 overs) Baldock II 156-4 (41 overs) What a strange game cricket can be. Last week Stuart Bulger had a heart attack and we lost in the last over - this week was equally diverse playing Baldock lls away. Mymms won the toss and duly elected to bat. Second ball and John Tunnel, opening with Colin Simmons, twinged his back and could not bat again. Oh dear. In came Jack Foley and looking comfortable received a ball just short of a length that got up no more than 6 inches and bowled him. Oh dear. Dilruk J, a new player, came in at 4 and steadied the ship with Colin until bizarrely, Colin was given out caught off a no-ball. Oh dear. Luckily, Ian Bright decided today was the day to play a super knock and he rattled off 41 runs, part with Dilruk and then part with Mark Terry. However, Mymms steadily lost wickets and despite a valiant and controlled 16 not out from Tom Wiggins at the end, Mymms ended up 153 all out (John Tunnel unable to bat again). Mymms took the field with positive intent but unfortunately Andrew Goodliffe could not find his usual rhythm and runs were quickly given away. A further complication arose when Dilruk pulled his hamstring and Mymms were down to 9 fielders. Matt Rathbone and Jeff Spencer came on and both bowled with control allowing Mymms a glimmer of hope, Matt taking 2 for 24 off 7 and Jeff giving nothing away. Tom Wiggins also bowled well but Baldock always had enough overs and reached the target for the loss of 4 wickets with 10 overs to spare. 6 points only to Mymms. Man of the match was easily Ian Bright who batted with passion and commitment and fielded like a gazelle. Mark Terry 2nd May 2009 NMCC 187-9 Broxbourne 188-8. Mymms 3s arrived at Bushey sports club for the first game of the new season on a beautiful May afternoon. We won the toss and had no hesitation in deciding to bat first on a very good pitch. After a short delay waiting for all the opposition to arrive after the usual M25 delays we got under way. Stuart Bulger and Steve Tilley opened the batting and Stuart began in his usual steady way making the bowlers pay for anything loose. Steve unfortunately wafted outside the off stump once too often and nicked one behind without opening this year's account. 6-1. That brought Colin Simmons to the crease who played some lovely shots and took their left arm slow bowler to the cleaners with 26 off three overs including a big 6. Unfortunately Stuart, who by now was on 40 n.o. began feeling unwell and came off. A wise move as it turned out as he had suffered a heart attack....not jug avoidance as some of you cynical so and so's were thinking. Hope you are back soon Stuart. Andrew Craig came in to join Colin and the score continued to tick over nicely but then disaster struck. A drive by Colin was finger tipped onto the bowlers stumps by the bowler and Andrew who was backing up was run out. A very unlucky way to go after a patient 12. 112-2 That brought new Captain Damian Southall to the crease to join Colin but unfortunately Colin nicked one to slip only a few balls later for a very well batted 47. 112-3. Vice Captain Mark Terry now entered the fray and looked to steady the ship against some fairly tidy bowling. A moment of indecision led to Damian being run out for 7. 124-4. Making a cameo appearance in the 3s was Ian Lawless who tried to push the run rate on but was bowled trying to hit out for 4. 138-5. Andy Goodliffe was next and again tried to push on but meanwhile Mark was bowled trying to hit out for 16. 144-6. Adam Davies came in at 9 to join Goody but unfortunately Goody skied one to cover for 2. 144-7. Matt Perridge now came to the middle. After a middle order collapse the projected total of 180 looked far away but nobody had told numbers 9, 10 and 11 that! After some lusty blows which left the opposition bowlers cursing Adam and Matt put on 19 for the 8th wicket before Matt was caught for 10. Tom Wiggins came in as last man and played a great supporting role for Adam, as well as chipping in with 5 himself, as the pair put on 24 vital runs for the 9th wicket. In the last over slogging out Adam was bowled for 19. Mymms closed on 187-9 after 52.1 overs. At the re-start Mymms took to the field with 10 men and went on the offensive. Opening bowlers Adam and Goody bowled with aggression and pace before Adam bowled the opener for 5. Goody had a fantastic 3rd over causing the bewildered batsman to glove one just short of Ian Lawless at gully and the very next delivery nicking one that absolutely flew between keeper and first slip for 4. First change were Mark and Ian who bowled with guile and cunning both being difficult to score against. Ian had the number 3 clean bowled with an absolute peach. With the Broxbourne score ticking along Adam and Goody came back on for a second spell. Goody managed to break the partnership by bowling the number 4 who had made a tidy 45 and had looked a threat. Adam continued to make the game look easy by taking a superb one handed catch off his own bowling to remove the number 5 for 1. The family connection provided the next wicket with Matt taking a catch at deep mid off from Goody's bowling. Mark and Ian returned for their second spell and continued where they had left off. Mark had the Broxbourne Captain bowled for a tidy 29. The skipper threw the ball to Matt Perridge but nerves got the better of him and he struggled to find the line and length he had shown the previous week. Ian Lawless came back and after some good glove work by Mouse had their number 9 stumped. That set up a very tense last three overs and unfortunately a missed run out and two dropped catches meant that Broxbourne won the match with two balls to spare. For the neutral a very exciting game of cricket, for a player a bitter pill to swallow. On a positive note we showed a lot of bottle and team spirit. There were some good innings played by Stuart, Colin, Mark and Adam. Great spells of aggressive bowling by Adam, Goody, Mark and Ian. Great support in the field with a special mention to Tom Wiggins and Colin. My MOTM this week goes to Adam Davies who just shadowed it from Colin. Well done gents. We are sitting in 10th spot in the League with 16 points and I am sure will consolidate our position further next week. Damian Southall |
