Please spare 2 hours of your time from 10 am on Saturday 3rd October (rain or shine) to pack up the club ready for the winter.

Jobs to be done include: putting away the benches, covers, sightscreens, netting, and boundary.  Its not tricky stuff, but many hands make light work so please come along and help out.  Anyone who would prefer an indoor job can help to clean the kitchen and bar.

End of season dinner and awards

The Raj Tandoori, Brookmans Park

Sunday 18th October from 7.30pm

The meal will be an Indian buffet with loads of dishes and sides to choose from. If you have any special requirements i.e. veggie or simply you don't like Indian food, they are happy to accommodate so please let me know.

Cost is only £11 per person (ex. drinks), and is payable on the night.

Please let me know via email if you and partners wish to attend, so I can give them an expectation of numbers. Alternatively call me on 07828 088471. Hopefully see you there,

Bouch

Ken King has received an Outstanding Contribution to Cricket Award (OSCA). Many congratulations from everyone at North Mymms CC. The nomination is here.

There will be umpiring courses available this winter.  Peter Hinstridge will be running Level 1 and Level 1A courses at Radlett, the first for around 6-7 weeks in October/November and the second (1A) from January-March.

Level 1 gives a basic coverage of the laws and is adequate for colts cricket and occasional umpires.  Level 1A is for those intending to umpire at all seriously to a decent level in league cricket – and is definitely preferred for those seeking to join the panel. The only cost is the membership fee for the ECB ACO (around £20 per annum) plus the local Herts Society (£6 per annum). Contact Jon Mather for further details and / or see below.

As always at this time of year we are renewing our requests for all Clubs to put forward candidates for training in both the above categories. As we all know, the game cannot survive without umpires and scorers and they are essential for the smooth-running of our League.

The Umpires Panel currently fulfils all the fixtures in Divisions 1 and 2 as well as many in the Home Counties League, but it is always looking for new recruits. Also, as all divisions in the League become more and more competitive, there is a need for as many of our existing non-qualified, part-time and player-umpires to remind themselves of the Laws and brush up on their skills. Umpiring can be a very rewarding pastime. For older cricketers it is an excellent way to keep in touch with the game and friends long after playing careers are over. For younger participants it is an opportunity to be at the centre of events and, for those with ambition, a chance to be involved at higher levels than they might ever have achieved as a player.

As far as scoring is concerned, there are also pathways for advancement to the upper echelons of the game but, as we all know, at every level it is essential that events on the field are properly recorded.

The Hertfordshire Society of Cricket Officials, who are our official ECB County Association, will again be running courses this winter throughout the county and details are attached. It would make a tremendous difference to Hertfordshire cricket if just one person came forward from every Club. Please do your best to persuade your colleagues to put themselves forward for this all too often forgotten aspect of the game.

With kind regards.

Tony Johnson
League Chairman.

A very big thank you to all those who gave up their time on Monday evening to complete their CRB checks. It seems intrusive and extensive but is the only way forward if we are to grow our Colts section and incorporate young players into our adult teams and Club. If you were unable to make it on Monday and need to complete a CRB form please contact me as I have forms available. If you are uncertain about whether your role needs a Vetting Check (CRB check) please look on the ECB website under 'Posts which require vetting checks', but as an absolute minimum the people in the following roles need to be CRB checked:

  • Coaches

  • Umpires

  • Scorers

  • Club Captain

  • Team Captains

and the following are recommended:-

  • Ground Staff

  • Bar Manager

  • Tea Lady/Caterer

this is not an exclusive list so please either ask me or check on the ECB website. Thank you again to everyone who came on Monday evening.

Message from Ian Cheeseman

"As you will be aware our Cricket Week is now only a week away and let’s hope the weather is kind to us.

Although we have most of the arrangements in hand we could always do with some additional help. If anyone can play next week and hasn’t yet let us know could they do so asap – we could especially do with improved availability on Monday & Tuesday. Equally, we still need a tea person on the Tuesday, a scorer for Monday & Wednesday (any junior cricketers who could do with a little extra pocket money and a free tea !) so if you can help that would be fantastic and please let me know asap".

Message from Neil Black

"Don't forget the main event.  Race night / Karaoke on Thursday 6th August.  Only £2.50 on the door, first race between 19:30 & 20:00.

There will be food available on the night.

"Big Al" returns on the mike so come down for some good old fashion abuse. After the race night which should take between 1hrs 1/2 hours to 2 hours, the "Leigh boys" will jump on the karaoke, if we have any budding singers out there, then get down to Mymms and put the Leigh boys to shame.

Please can we pack out the pavilion on this evening, at least pop down for drink, lets make it a good "CLUB" night. Don't be frightened to bring down family, friends and random people, all are welcome!

If you want to buy a horse they are £5.00 each (might do a deal if you want to bulk buy), email back or call/text 07736849753".
