NMCC Mixed Colts Match Report 22nd June 2009 Match Report NMCC Colts V Old Owens Monday evening on June 22nd was always going to be a tough encounter between North Mymms and Old Owens Under 15s. For the first time this season, the opposition won the toss and chose to bat. Tom Kight was named captain for the match and started the Old Owens innings off by bowling the first over. He bowled with good pace but was troubled to find the right line. Matt Rathbone opened up from the opposite end and could not have asked for a more perfect start when a short ball hurried onto the batsman and Jason took a great catch to remove him. A steady partnership formed until Matt Rathbone struck again with the help of Matt Bevans’ diving catch, who then backed this up by removing the number 3 batsman in the next over… another great catch, this time by Callum Bayliss, and Old Owens were 3-38. Tom Rogers, Jason Baldwin, Jamie Blackburn and Nathan bowled well but were unable to break an excellent partnership between two of the Old Owens batsmen. It was not until one of these batsmen retired for a well made 50, with the score on 103 that a new batsman came to the crease. Matt Rathbone stepped up to bowl an excellent last over, conceding only one run and taking a wicket in the process. Old Owens finished their innings on 116 from 20 overs. Callum Bayliss and Tom Gregory opened the innings for North Mymms and put on 26 for the first wicket. Andy Bidmead then came in and together with Callum put on a decent partnership, hitting any loose ball to the boundary. Eventually, Callum was dismissed for 23. Kaz Topham came in next and was on the end of a good delivery to which he was bowled. Tom Kight was next in. Together, Tom and Andy turned the strike beautifully and put on another 25 runs until Andy played across the line and was bowled. The game was becoming tight, with Matt Bevans and Tom Kight needing 42 runs off the last 6 overs to win the match for North Mymms. Some excellent hitting from Matt Bevans, as well as some excellent running between the wickets got the situation to exactly a run a ball until Matt became the 4th batsman to get bowled in the innings. With one over to go, we needed 9 runs to win. Up step Tom Kight, who got the second last ball away over the leg side for a boundary, and capped off a great performance from the team. The importance of Nathan Stiffin’s innings was not to be underestimated, who came in under a lot of pressure, and got four singles to rotate the strike beautifully to the in-form Tom. Definitely the most satisfying win for the colts, who remain undefeated for the season. Ben Langford.
1st June 2009 Match Report NMCC Colts Game 2 A beautiful evening on June 1 saw a mixture of North Mymms colts host St Albans under 13s. Captain Matt Rathbone won the toss and chose to bat. This week, Matt Bevans and Callum Bayliss opened the batting and got us off to a solid start, putting on 22 runs in quick time until Callum was bowled for 11. Matt then kicked on and made his 25 off only 23 balls. This left Tom Rogers and Nathan Stiffin at the crease and the pair batted exceptionally well, adding 43 runs until Nathan was retired for his 25. Tom Rogers was dismissed shortly afterwards for a well made 18, and this left Tom Gregory and Bradley Hawthorn to finish off the innings. Tom made 15 not out and hit some nice shots over the top while Bradley did well to hang around and North Mymms finished on exactly 100. The total was always going to be difficult for the younger St Albans side and it looked even harder for them when Jamie Blackburn bowled a great first over and took 2 wickets. Kaz Topham was the other opener. He bowled a tight spell and was rewarded with a wicket in his third over St Albans where in trouble at 17-3. Bradley then took a wicket with his first delivery, a great catch by Callum. Jason Baldwin, Nathan Stiffin and Tom Rogers bowled well but were unlucky not take a wicket, while a middle order fight back took St Albans to 55-5. Matt Rathbone came onto bowl and took 2 wickets, while a flurry of late runouts resulted in a late collapse as St Albans were all out for 70 off the final ball of the game. Another solid performance from the team, who look for a stronger challenge in their next match on Monday night. Ben Langford
18th May 2009 Monday the 18th May saw a combined North Mymms colts side host Met Police colts in a 20 over a side friendly. The captain Matt Rathbone won the toss and chose to bat. Callum Bayliss found the boundary several times to get North Mymms off to a great start, eventually getting out for 30. Matt Bevans and Jason Baldwin then batted well together until Jason retired from his steady innings on 25 and Matt was run out for 35, with the score on 101. In an attempt to lift the run rate, Nathan and Tom were both dismissed for no runs while Tim hit some nice shots over the infield to score 13 not out. North Mymms finished with 135-5 off their 20 overs. North Mymms started well in the field, with Matt Rathbone bowling well to go for only 10 runs from his 3 overs. Jamie Blackburn took a good caught and bowled in his first over, then finished well to claim 3-12 off 3 overs, and have the opposition in trouble at 3-23. A good partnership between their batsmen was enough to see Nathan, Jason and Kaz bowl well without taking a wicket and the score move to 3-61. North Mymms turned to their youngest player Bradley Hawthorn with the ball, and after starting a little nervously with 2 wides, picked himself up to take a wicket with the last ball of his first over. He then bowled beautifully through his next 2 overs, taking 3 wickets for only 1 run, finishing with figures of 4-9. A great performance! Harry Shepherd bowled an excellent spell to round off the opposition’s collapse, taking 2-4 off his 2 overs. Matt Bevans then finished the innings by taking the last wicket, and Met Police were all out for 68. A promising all round performance from the side, with everyone playing a part in the win.
